I'm not really certain but I found a site (HDDGURU: Head Stack Replacement: Questions and Answers) that walks me through replacing the heads on my recently failed Hard drive. It turns out that the platters on the Hitachi are the problem and the heads on the IBM disk are bad. And here's the good news. It looks like the Hitachi Travelstar and the IBM travelstar models might be compatable!
Well I'm going to try it. I sure can't afford to pay $995 to get it done from a clean-room laboratory. But maybe a few hours and a few tools can gain my HD at least long enough to get my data off.
