I have here for your reading and perusing pleasure the Works of Jonathan Edwards in Libronix PBB format. (Though I'm not sure who compiled them.)

Hi,

I downloaded the Jonathan Edwards zip and also the Summa Theologica, but it does not show up in my Library. I can read other PBB books but not these two. I was wondering if I had to have Ver. 3.0 for them to work on my computer. I have V.2.1.

Thanks for any advice on this you could share. I sure appreciate your work in making these books available.

To answer your query: Yes. To read a few of these books version three will be required. But I would expect the rollout to happen relatively soon. Just keep the files on your HD in the resources directory and they’ll be discovered when the upgrade happens.

When I try to open the

When I try to open the zipped files for the Edwards Collection and the Aquinas Collection, it says that it is unable to open them. It gives me the option of choosing a program but I have not been able to figure out how to do that. Is there an easy solution? Thanks!

Works for me. It sounds like an issue on your system. Try downloading 7zip and using that to extract the files. Report back here if you have further problems.

I tried to download again

I tried to download again and a box popped up from Windows which said: "Windows cannot open this file. To open this file, Windows needs to know what program created it." Then it gives me the option of "use the web to find a program" or "select a program from a list." I am not sure what program to select.

Well it certainly sounds

Well it certainly sounds like windows is trying to "Open from this location" rather than "save from this location". I bet you are using Internet Explorer as it frequently has these issues. Let's see if I can help fix it. :-) Or skip these directions and install firefox instead.


When you click on a download link a request is sent to the server asking for the file it references. The file is then offered via http download. Most web browsers know that unless a file is .txt or .html that it's a download. Certain other file types like .mp3 can be set up to play automatically or in some other way "run" on your computer. Somehow your copy of IE has forgotten that lbxoeb files are supposed to be downloaded and not run or displayed. The following steps might help.

  1. Right click the file link and select "save target as" The rest of the process is like saving any other file.
  2. Reboot your computer (yeah it sounds silly but at least 50% of window's problems can be fixed with a reboot.)
  3. It's possible that you changed a setting somewhere: When you try and download an .EXE file with Internet Explorer, you are prompted to "Always ask before opening this type of file". (other file types like lbxoeb might trigger the same dialog). (click here for the Microsoft knowledgebase article)

    4. If you uncheck this box, the next time a EXE file is about to be downloaded, you will not be prompted and the file will automatically be opened. You also do not see the "Always ask..." box again so you can uncheck it. To reset Internet Explorer back again: WARNING: always back up your registry before editing!!

    1. Start Regedit
    2. Go to Hkey_Classes_Root \ exefile
    3. Modify the third octet for the EditFlags value in the Hkey_Classes_Root\exefile key from 01 to 00. (For example change the EditFlags value from d8 07 01 00 to d8 07 00 00)
    4. Additionally check the key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Plugins\Extension. If you see .lbxoeb right click and delete it.

I took a look at the files.

I took a look at the files. I had to right click on the link and do 'save as' and then add the '.zip' extension. It appears the files on the server are missing them so it is serving them up as garbbled data.

When I copied them to the directory Libronix did see them and displayed the book covers. However it reports that the books were created with the 'personal book builder' edition and can only be unlocked and viewed on the machine on which they were made.

curious. I've tested using IE7 and Firefox2 and both will download the files correctly to my system with just a simple left click of the link.
I suspect something is happening on your side. But I can't currently imagine what it is.
