Bible Study Software

I have recently discovered the free Bible study tool called e-Sword. This tool is very nicely done, and there is just a wealth of resources on the internet for it. My library is up to over 1GB of books at absolutely no cost.

I started out using Online Bible, but was irritated by it for one reason or another. So then I purchased the entry level Logos software, but am disappointed at the lack of affordable resources for it - given I am not in the ministry and cannot shell out a couple thousand dollars on it.

But, e-Sword has filled in the gap for me. The URL is listed below for the program and its free resources, and a second URL for a location to find many other resources of a broad background.

Technology wise, all of the resource files are Jet (Access) files. It is a Windows program, but there are instructions out there for getting it to run under Wine on Linux.

Check it out!

eSword is fantastic, but you may also want to check out Bible Explorer which also has many free books. In addition, they have 2,400 addons which usually are very reasonably priced. I use WORDsearch 7, which is basically the same program, but with a slightly (and I mean slightly) different interface. I use Libronix, WORDsearch 7, Bibleworks 7, QuickVerse 2007, PC Study Bible 5 and have used eSword for years. I feel WORDsearch (Bible Explorer) is a nice balance between cost and quality. It's a premium app with great features and modern (copyright) resources, but will not cost thousands to have a packed library.

I agree that Logos "lack of affordable resources for it - given I am not in the ministry and cannot shell out a couple thousand dollars on it."

I fear I have helped with making Bob Pritchett a wealthy man.
