Goodbye Google Adsense
I've had enough of Google adsense. I've struggled with having it on the site anyway - the only reason I started with it was to try and pay my hosting fees (it hasn't done much of that either.)
I started with restricting it to only users who weren't logged in, and realized after someone sent me a complaint about one of the adds that I was never seeing them and turned them on across the board so I could monitor them. I started seeing lots of adds that made me nervous. Some of them pointed to outright heretical sights, others to completely irrelevant sites.
I journeyed into the configuration pages at adsense and typed in a bunch of keywords that I wanted to avoid, but that's not entirely effective. This morning I was directed to reread a post on Leviticus concerning the differences in birth purification between boys and girls. Google adsense complied with links to porn. That's it!
I sincerely and humbly apologize to my readers for allowing the devil into the den. It's gone. While I was only eight cents from actually getting a payment, what concerns me the most however is the very real possibility that someone clicked on those links, unfortunately I had tracking of those clicks turned off. All I can do is to present you all with an earnest exhortation:
My friends please avert your eyes from such things. Job 31:1 has been an excellent guide for me, "I have made a covenant with my eyes; How then could I gaze at a [young woman]?"
1 Corinthians 6:18 "Flee immorality. Every other sin that a man commits is outside the body, but the immoral man sins against his own body."
1 Timothy 6:11 "But flee from these things, you man of God, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, perseverance and gentleness."
Perhaps I'll include a few other links for you to peruse:

Job's Covenant
Thanks for your thoughts. I've always found Job 31:1 inspiring as well. I wrote a blog about it on my company's blog site: http://www.covenanteyes.com/blog/2008/01/05/jobs-covenant-with-his-eyes/
Let me know what you think.
I work for Covenant Eyes (the name is based on this verse in Job). The company has been making and distributing Internet monitoring software for the past 8 years and has helped tens of thousands find freedom from pornography's grip online. It is really rewarding to hear testimonies about people who are finally finding accountability and good friendships in the Body of Christ, people willing to call them out on their sin and pray for their healing and forgiveness.
Covenant Eyes monitoring program simply tracks (without blocking) everywhere someone goes online. Then each part of each webpage is rated and scored for its content (scores are based on obscene or pornographic material). Users choose 2 or 3 people that they want to receive a detailed "accountability report" of all their online activity (emails to them or available to see online 24/7). What this does is it allows complete freedom to the person using the Internet, but it takes away the anonymity of online activity; people are more likely to exorcise self-control when they know that others will be reviewing their whereabouts online.
If you want to check it out, go to www.covenanteyes.com and enter promotional code 'onefree' to receive a free 30 day trial of the program. That promo code is open to anyone who wants it.
