Jim West's Stinging Indicment...

Dr. Jim West quotes Kenneth Daniel. with a long series of intended rebukes for the "silent" clergy of America regarding the Israel -v- Hezbollah conflict. I was going to let it roll till I came to:

I ask you, when did the God of compassion, inclusion, tolerance and forgiveness become the God of retribution, condemnation and punishment?

Just a second, but is not God's own declaration of his name both compassionate and just? Does not God visit sinners with punishment if they reject him? Does not God forgive and punish? Yes he does. Those that reject him he punishes. Those who snub their noses in His face he tolerates for now - has provided for their redemption - and yet he will one day bring his retribution upon them. Ever heard of hell Dr. West? Yeah, that is retribution.
Certainly doesn't answer much about Hezbollah and Israel but I'll post more about that later.

Sloppy theology. Christians,

Sloppy theology.

Christians, most certainly, are to be all about compassion and mercy. Outside of the church they are to be about tolerance as well. Inside the church they are to be inclusive OF CHRISTIANS and tolerant only of insignificant matters. That's our job. I give thanks that this is what is required of us.

God is not some marshmallow. He is supremely, incomprehensibly holy. He is offended by every sin. He requires payment for sin - by us or by Christ. His wrath is neverending. Look at Sodom. Look at the Babylonian deportation. Look at the destruction of Jerusalem in AD 70. Look at Romans. Look at Revelation. We are all deserving of immediate and eternal condemnation, retribution and punishment. Even with the astounding compassion evidenced in the death and resurrection of Christ, many will still suffer his wrath forever.

How can people forget this?

It is forgotten because in America God has been "marshmallowized". Touchy feely has replaced theological truth. In much of Western Christianity, something is considered true because it feels true regardless of what God's word says. But truth demands a rigid standard, a guideline - the word of God. God's word doesn't waver.

I agree with you James, it's time to bring back the notion of just how Holy God is.
