The Citadel Plaque

The Citadel Plaque

In the Citadel of North Haiti I found this plaque. Google translate gives this approximate translation which I've tried to rework into something meaningful:

[The] extraordinary builder of this citadel, Henri Christophe [committed] suicide [within the palace] of Sans-Souci [without concern], on October 8, 1820. The same Night of [his] death [his] body was buried in secrecy in lenceinte fort. Today only the impalpable dust of the tragic life of the missing monarch is felt invisibly within these walls. The men and women of Haiti come here in search of a historical message of unity of the people and the choice of a destiny always has new freedoms to conquer.
Text of A. Mangones March 1990

I'm sure it's a terrible translation so if you have a better one please leave a comment.
