Home Grown Coffee

On last years trip to Haiti I had a chance to visit one of my former students at his home. On the way out he took me out back where his mother was grinding coffee. Haitian coffee is unlike anything I've had elsewhere. First it's roasted with a very generous amount of raw sugar until it's blacker than the darkest French roast. Then it's ground by thumping it with a pole until it's not quite a powder. Wow.
The Smell is incredible and for a coffee lover like myself this was an experience I won't soon forget.
