Depression "On the Threshold of Eternity" - Vincent Vangogh

Depression is a very very real phenomena and it attacks Christians as well as non Christians. Depression is an equal opportunity destroyer. So I don't approach the topic vainly or arrogantly. I have in the past suffered with great bouts of depression and I'm constantly amazed at the large number of God's servants that have done the same. (see previous posts Freedom From Darkness & On being the Pastor).
While reading today regarding Cain's sacrifice (Genesis 4:3-8) not being accepted by God (Genesis 4:5) I was struck not only by the question "Why not?" but by the mental state of Cain combined with

STOP IT

It was a counselor yelling "Stop It!" every time a patient discussed any particular Neurosis.

Freedom From Darkness

If you have ever suffered under the darkness of depression you know full well it's power to crush and destroy. King David's many psalms reflect a man who himself struggled with depression (and found hope in God). Greater and more powerful than any depression is demonic oppression (demonization). Recalling the story of the Gadarene Demoniac the song "Set Me Free" from Casting Crowns does an admirable job of portraying the hoplessness of spiritual captivity and the glorious power of Christ to set the captives free.

About four or five years ago when I was preparing to teach principles of Spiritual Warfare in Haiti for the First time I was consulting dozens of resources and was getting more and more frustrated over the lack of Biblically accurate texts available on the topic. It seemed for a time that anytime the word demon was mentioned in a text it was either treated outrageously unbiblically or was quickly glossed over. There were a few resources which bucked this trend but not many.
