Never Leave Your Partner Behind

Fireproof the Movie, web banner

I've just gotten back from a special preview of a new movie called "Fireproof". It's made by the same folks that made Facing the Giants and to a certain extent it shares many of the same components that made "Giants" go as far as it did. I remember reading a secular review of Facing the Giants which declared it "preachy". I have to confess that it was probably a sane summary. I could try to cover it up by saying "the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing..." but I won't even though it's true.

Very early on in the movie there was something I still can't get my finger on which bothered me. The acting wasn't bad - but there was something which was to me intangibly understated. To my untrained eye it certainly was as professional and well acted as any other movie I've ever seen, perhaps it was the script itself - either way after about 10 minutes the distraction disappeared and I was fully into the movie.

The Façade

Facade The book

I don't read many fiction books. I've read the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit, as well as the Harry Potter series (oh, quit rolling your eyes) but that's about it. I'm not a huge fan of fiction - oh that reminds me I did read the Davinci Code while researching it but again that's about it. I do however have a rather profound interest in Spiritual Warfare, The Bible and by outgrowth of these two the paranormal and yes, UFO stuff.

I have long believed that alien abduction stories are not the mere brainchild of people who want their 15 minutes of fame; nor do I believe they are a grandiose conspiracy theories put forth by the Governments of any given country, including our own. I have equated UFO's and demonic activity for years. Thus when I was reading Dr. Michael Heiser's work on the Divine Council I ran across a book simply titled The Façade which he had written I knew I had to read it.

The Façade is a fast paced ... hmmm. It's a tough book to describe. Sci-Fi, no that's not good enough, let me just call it a Supernatural UFO Thriller as a working category. In brief, and hopefully without giving away too much it tells the story of a group of individuals brought into a super top secret government installation in order to figure out the best way to get the public up to speed on what the government has known all along about extra terrestrials.

Review of Standard Lesson e-Commentary

Rated 3.5 out of 5

SRP=$19.95, Average=$13.00

I paid $4.95 for this at Family Christian Bookstores because it was last year's edition and on clearance (75% off)

This is the CD-ROM version of the Standard Lesson Commentary put out every year for adult sunday school classes... In years past, the CD-ROM was included with the print version, but about 3 years ago, they started selling the software separately... I have picked up copies of this going back to 2000, and I must say they keep improving a little every year... This review is based on the 2006-2007 edition

Review of Nelson's Annual Preacher's Sourcebook

Rated 4.5 out of 5

Every year, Nelson puts out a book with sermons plans for each Sunday... While I'm not entirely sold on the idea of someone using pre-fab sermons to preach from, I do like illustrations and expository information... Also, the book always comes with a CD-ROM, which would make finding information easier later (or so I thought.)
