Timelines

John's Simple Timeline Starter 1.0

Attached below you will find version 1.0 of my Simple Timeline Starter for Logos Libronix 3.x... Please backup any timelines you have before using this, just in case...

It requires .Net Framework 1.x to be installed. I only tested tested this on Windows XP and Vista, but it should work on any OS that supports .Net framework.

Also attached in the source code... I did this in VB.Net 2003, then upgraded to 2005. Feel free to improve the code, add features, etc... All I ask is you send copies to me so I can roll them in to the master copy... (Credits will be added to the About page as needed...)

Now to finish building timelines of the kings in the Northern kingdom....

God Bless,

John

J.R.R. Tolkien Timeline

J.R.R. Tolkien

The Story of the Storyteller

Since I was a small child I have been a fan of J.R.R. Tolkien's epic mythology embodied both in The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, including the equally grand back story of the Silmarillion . To tell the truth, these are the only books in addition to the Bible which I have ever managed to really read more than once. Oh, other books which I own frequently find themselves upon my desk but they arrive for the purpose of quick references or meager refreshers and they depart long before a thorough reading ever becomes a true possibility. I bore too quickly to read most stories fact or fiction over again. I am the same with movies. If I have seen a movie one time that is more than sufficient for a lifetime. Again the singular exception has been Peter Jackson's adaptation of the Trilogy to film. (I note with excessive glee that all of the issues between Jackson and New Line Cinema has been rectified and that Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh are returning to produce both “The Hobbit” as well as a second bridge film that tells the story from the end of the Hobbit to the start of the Fellowship of The Ring. )

Having read a few biographies of the man who penned the Hobbits into existence I sat down to create my first ever (if somewhat whimsical) timeline for Libronix – the Life of John Ronald Reuel Tolkien.

Jehoash and Jeroboam II Timeline

Amazing, how God would work incredible miracles for Israel and give warnings via prophets like Elisha and Amos, and it still continued in its idolatry...

Attached is the Logos Libronix timeline for Kings Jehoash and Jeroboam II of Israel, along with instructions to install...

God Bless, Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year to all...

Jehu and Jehoahaz

I once read somewhere that it's not a single act that makes you a hero, but how you live each day... It's too bad Jehu didn't know this... He did everything right when first anointed king, going so far as to kill all the Baal worshipers, but then did nothing else of note, other than to raise a son who was evil like Jeroboam... How sad, especially given that God had already promised him 4 generations on the throne...

Attached is a Logos Libronix timeline for Jehu and Jehoahaz... Also attached are instuctions for installing if you need them...

Joram (Jehoram) Son of Ahab

This was one of the more fun timelines I've worked on...

I feel bad for Joram... Unlike most of Israel's kings, he seemed to at least respect God's prophet (Elisha)... It is hard to understand how God could allow Ahab to rule so long as evil as he was, but allowed his son was was not as evil (but still bad) to die in the manner he did... I suppose it just goes to show the more you know, the more accountable you are, and that being less evil is still not doing good...

Ahaziah, Son of Ahab Timeline

Here we have a man who could have learned from his parents' mistakes, but didn't...

This timeline is for use in Logos Libronix 3.x

Instructions for installing are in the attached PDF...

Something old, Something new, Something learned...

Day 1 of Camp Logos I is complete... I am definitely learning some new tricks and relearning some old ones I forgot... It should really help me with knowing how to teach others... Picked up some good resources too, including the Lesson Builder I hear so many talk about... Not everything was a good price, but there were a few good deals...

Sorry it took this long to finish this timeline, but i got distracted with some other projects... I will be writing documentation for the logos class each month, and need to to get it out of the way so there will be time to have it reviewed... Nothing has been posted yet, but the link is at http://groups.google.com/group/logos-connections-springfield-va-usa when we do start posting... The first doc will be on creating and using collections and will likely be posted after the next class Aug. 10th... (If you live in the Northern VA area, please join us for either (day or evening) of our monthly meetings...)

Anyway, the main character in this timeline is King Joash of Judah, a man who allowed flattery to ruin his relationship with God, even driving him to murder... The lesson here is there comes a day when every man must grow up and be a leader... Its too easy to seek a mentor unworthy when we lose the one we have had all our life... There comes a day when our personal relationship with God becomes one on one. We grow up. Its not that we no longer need accountability, but that we should be that much closer to God... And then, one day further, when God judges us worthy, we might mentor others with the expectation that they too would one day grow up...

God Bless,

John

Never be the only one to review your own work...

It never seems to fail... I think I have finished a document or a timeline only to find a mistake... Please download the Jehoram timeline again if you haven't already as I uploaded a correction...

Jehoram Son of Jehoshaphat Timeline

Here we have one of the Jehorams... It always amazes me how Godly men will have such ungodly children... Of course, Jehoram was married to Ahab's daughter by the time Jehoshaphat learned his lesson... Even making him co-regent did not stop his son from sinning and leading Judah astray once he died...

The lessons I learned from this?

o You MUST teach your children morality when they are young... Waiting until they are are adults or even teenagers is far too long to wait... Make the time for them...

o Even if you are forgiven for your sins, and blessed by God, others may very well suffer for them...

This requires the 3.x version of Logos Libronix and the Timelines add-in...

Instructions for installing included in the PDF...
