PDA Bible Software

Someone in my class wanted to know what the best PDA Bible software was so I put together a current list... Seemed like others might want to see it so I have copied it here....

The Nelson PDA software is on sale here:
http://www.nelsonministryservices.com/nms/dept.asp?dept%5Fid=742 (<$15)
I bought the eBible for PDA: Essentials Library because it came with both Palm and Pocket PC versions... It works well but does not have all the books I wanted available so stopped using this...

Quickverse for the Pocket PC can be found here:

Databases on PPC and Libronix

In programming for the Windows Mobile devices, there is very little memory to work with, and only a subset of tools that one is used to using in the Windows PC world... It turns out that I did find a way to overcome most of the limitations by using SQL Server Mobile... It supports up to a 2 Gig database, which is the limit of most Storage Cards... The problem is that Microsoft did not make it as easy to install for non-programmers, and that it is very slow to start up...

If someone does start using the source code I posted last week, I would recommend looking at SQL Server Mobile...

Another software tool I have found is the Mono Open Source Project (on SourceForge) which allows one to compile Visual Studio code on a Linux platform... This is something I would love other programmers to look at... (Hint Hint Logos)

In other news, due to the Daylight Savings Time changes (shades of the Y2K bugs), I will be busy at work late into the nights this week, so my timelines are on hold for now...

God Bless...

Source to John's NoteReader for PPC Demo

For those who want to play with the source code until I look at it again, here it is... All I ask is that if you do modify the code, send me a copy or contact me so I can add it to the "official build"... This is Visual Studio .NET 2005 code in case I forgot to say this before...

Time to go shovel snow so I can go to work tomorrow...

God Bless,

A Change in My Timeline

Not too much progress on any of my projects here... Been too busy getting new Vista drivers and crashing my PC... Probably just as well... It seems there is a lack on interest in my NoteReader, so I am planning on just adding a couple of minor changes (so i can learn how to do them) and putting out a final version (for now)...

For a new programming project, I may build a Timeline Builder... Since I am building timelines anyhow, it will be useful to me... It will be a Windows 98/2000/XP/Vista program, though I may compile a PPC version just for fun... Don't have a schedule on when to start yet...

I need to type in my notes into the Jehoshaphat Timeline, but have everything written up except for the overlap of his and his father Asa's reigns... (I need to research it, as I didn't remember seeing it in the Bible (I sometimes miss stuff, so will read again and again), but it's in some of the other resources I double check myself on...)

Tech Demo of Note Reader for PPC

This is a Technical Demo of my Pocket PC NoteReader for Libronix... This is a very early version which doesn't format and only works with smaller files (Less than 100k should be OK. Though larger files might load, they will be truncated and/or take a while to load or even lock up your unit.... On the good news side, it also reads Prayer Lists and Sermon Files... Your Libronix files must be located in the "My Documents" directory either in main memory or on a storage card...

This software requires .NET Compact Framework v1.0 to be installed... (Available freely from Microsoft if you don't have it already.)

To install, download, extract, and run the EXE from the Setup ZIP or you can just download and extract the CAB file from the Cab ZIP directly on your PPC, and run it from there... It can be safely installed on a storage card if you wish to when asked... When done you can delete the CAB file... An icon will be installed in your Start Menu called "John's NoteReader"...

I will probably one day redesign the user interface and see what can be done to raise the file size limit (which might require v2 or v3 of Compact Framework)...

Once I am happy with the basic GUI design, and have the memory problems resolved, I'll start thinking about releasing the code, especially if some other programmers are willing to help... Using VB.NET 2005 right now with v1 CF Smart Device Project for those curious... It is mostly code adapted from books and sites like the Code Project...

Anyway, I'm probably going to take a break from coding to work on my timelines... Please comment back on your thoughts about the demo in the meantime...

To God Be The Glory...
