Ahazaih, Athaliah, and Joash (Jehoash) Chronological Events Ahazaih, Athaliah, and Joash (Jehoash) Verses: 1 Kings 8:24-12:21 and 2 Chronicles 22:1-24:27 <a href="libronixdls:report|name=ReportBiblicalPeople|page=ID%3AAhaziah-1">Ahazaih</a> youngest son of <a href="libronixdls:report|name=ReportBiblicalPeople|page=ID%3AJehoram-1">Jehoram</a> became king when his father died because the Arabs killed all his brothers
  • He was twenty-two at this time
  • He was evil because of his ties to Ahab's family and his mother Athaliah's advice
  • He allied with Jehoram the son of Ahab king of Israel to wage war against Hazael king of Aram at Ramoth-gilead
  • While visiting Jehoram (who was wounded by the Arameans), Jehoram and Ahaziah were, in turn, slain by Jehu as God cut off the house of Ahab
  • As Jehu executed judgment on the house of Ahab, he found the princes of Judah and the sons of Ahaziah's brothers ministering to Ahaziah, and slew them too
 Athaliah became queen
  • She killed all the royal offspring when she heard her son Ahaziah was dead
  • Joash was hidden by Jehosheba and was raised in the House of God
 Joash ruled under <a href="libronixdls:report|name=ReportBiblicalPeople|page=ID%3AJehoiada-2">Jehoiada's</a> instruction
  • When Joash turned seven, Jehoiada made a covenant with the captains of the Carites and of the guard
  • Athaliah was taken from House of God and killed at the entrance to the King's House
  • The people rejoiced that she was killed
  • Jehoiada made a covenant with the people and the king to be the Lord's people
  • There was revival in the kingdom
  • Joash did right in the sight of the Lord during this period
  • Joash ordered the Temple repaired

  • Joash reproved the priests
  • The temple was finally repaired
  • Utensils were made for the House of the Lord
  • Burnt offerings were made in the House of the Lord continually
 Joash fell into sin
  • Jehoiada died at an age of one hundred thirty and was buried with the kings (800 a guess)
  • Joash began listening to advisors who flattered him
  • They abandoned God and began to serve idols
  • Joash had Zechariah the son of Jehoiada stoned to death for telling him God had forsakened him as he had forsakened God
  • God punished Joash by using Hazael king of Aram to capture Gath and had Joash give him all the gold and sacred things from his treasury and the House of God
 Joash died
  • His servants killed him in his bed at the house of Millo as he was going down to Silla because he killed Zechariah
  • No one regreted his death
  • He was buried in Jerusalem but not in the tombs of the kings
  • His son Ahaziah (Jehoahaz) became king in his place
